Resources for LGBTQ+ Teens, Youth and Adults in Nevada County
Nevada County Public Health values the health and wellness of all people in our community, regardless of their gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer / Questioning (LGBTQ) communities, similar to other communities, experience some distinct concerns related to their health and wellness. Here at Public Health, we work to provide services that are respectful and inclusive for all members of our community. In addition, below is a list of resources in Nevada County that focus on services and resources for LGBTQ+ people.
Many of our local schools, including middle schools and high schools, have resources and GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) groups on campus to support LGBTQ+ students.
Ask your school counselor about how to get involved with the group in your school.
Community Beyond Violence will be supporting Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs) in local high schools with the guidance of former PFLAG members.
In Truckee, Truckee High School has a Pride Club via their Wellness Center. The Pride Club supports MOGII (Marginalized Orientations, Gender Identities and Intersex) youth and educates the school and the broader community about the broad spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities.
Bright Futures for Youth (formerly NEO) hosts a weekly Rainbow Social, a gathering in Grass Valley for friendship and support for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 11-25. Check NEO's events page for the next date. Rainbow Social has two groups - one for youth ages 11-14 and a second for youth ages 15-25. For more information about the Rainbow Social, call 530-265-4311
A monthly LGBTQ support group is held on the last Tuesday of each month at 6pm via Zoom. Formerly run by PFLAG, now with a new name, the "True Colors: The Many Shades of LGBTQ+" support group will now be managed by Color Me Human (colormehuman.org).
