Get Your County Voter Information Guide and Sample Ballot Online

Voter Information Guides

Ahead of every election, the California Secretary of State and Counties send out Voter Information Guides (VIGs). Each contain different information about the same election. Elections officials aim to send out the VIGs before voters get their ballots. By law, all elections officials must mail the VIG no sooner than 40 days or later than 21 days before an election, or no later than 10 days if the voter was registered later on in the process. Elec. Code §§ 9094, 13303.

The State VIG will have information about statewide candidates and initiatives, as well as general information about voting. It will not have any county-specific election information.

The County VIG will have information about local candidates and measures, party endorsements (if applicable), and information about how to cast a ballot, including vote center and drop box locations. It will also include a Sample Ballot, which you can use as a reference for when you're ready to vote.
