On Thursday, April 11, the Nevada County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss the Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and proposed Ordinance for the Nevada County Commercial Cannabis Cultivation Ordinance Project. The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Board Chambers at the Eric Rood Administrative Center. This meeting is the next step in the multi-year process of developing the County's long-term cannabis regulations.
Staff from the Community Development Agency and representatives of Kimley-Horn and Associates, the environmental consulting firm retained by the County to prepare the EIR, will give a presentation on the preparation and contents of the Final EIR. The proposed Ordinance will also be detailed and specifics on zoning, canopy size, cultivation areas, permitting, and other issues will be explained. The Planning Commission will have the opportunity to ask questions of staff and the consultant, and the public will have an opportunity to comment on the Ordinance and the adequacy of the environmental document. As the Planning Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors, staff will recommend that the Commission, after hearing public comment, recommend the Board of Supervisors certify the Final EIR as adequate and in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act, and recommend the Commission recommend the Board of Supervisors adopt the Ordinance amending the Nevada County Land Use and Development Code.
The public is encouraged to submit comments on the Final EIR and the Ordinance. Verbal testimony can be given at the Planning Commission meeting and written comments can be submitted to the Planning Department. When the project comes before the Board of Supervisors, the public will once again have an opportunity to provide verbal comments.
