There are many unsung heroes among us as we navigate the uncharted waters of a global pandemic. There’s one particular group of heroes who aren’t in the limelight and not making the news. That’s because they’ve hunkered down, closed their doors, and are busy fiercely protecting those in their care. The Administrators and their staff of our local skilled nursing facilities deserve to be applauded. They’ve had a near impossible task on their hands: stay informed on ever-changing guidelines of a potentially fatal virus, be prepared to implement an emergency action plan at a moment’s notice, keep residents and staff calm but vigilant, and prepare for the worst. But in spite of all of this, these Administrators and their staff have persevered. They have remained engaged, communicative, responsive, and prepared. These people work to protect their elderly and medically fragile patients, and many may not realize the amount of sacrifice and dedication that goes into keeping them safe every day, but we do.
