Fire season is just around the corner and the the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is pleased to announce that it is partnering with YubaNet, and local fire authorities, to host a Virtual Town Hall Meeting on Wildfire Preparedness and Response on May 21st from noon to 2:00 p.m.  The community is invited to ask questions of panelists representing the best of the Ready Nevada County effort and the wildfire preparedness community. OES, in coordination with the Town of Truckee, will host a similar virtual event with a focus on Eastern Nevada County residents soon.

OES Program Manager Paul Cummings explained, “ While coronavirus provides an element of complexity, it shouldn’t stop us from doing our part to get ready for wildfire season. The threat of wildfire will be here regardless of what phase of reopening we are in.“

Participants are invited to register for the event at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/7915883776880/WN_Vk5_czejSaeWkaaT3LUxNw and to send their questions to townhall@yubanet.com in advance.

YubaNet Co-founder and Editor, Pascale Fusshoeller will be moderating the event, she says, “NorthOps Predictive Services is forecasting an above normal potential for large fires in our area starting in late June. The virtual town hall and its expert panel provides you with a list of tools and resources to keep yourself and the community safe. Join us and bring your questions!"

Local Fire Agency representatives participating in the event include Cal FIRE, Nevada County Consolidated Fire District (NCCFD), Grass Valley/Nevada City Fire Department, Higgins Area Fire Protection District, North San Juan Fire Protection Agency, Peardale-Chicago Park Fore Protection District, Tahoe National Forest, and Washington Volunteer Fire Department, amongst others.

Nevada County District II Supervisor Ed Scofield will be welcoming participants to the event as he noted, “Living in beautiful Nevada County requires some extra effort from everyone. We hope this program is both informative and inspiring. There is a lot of work to do as we move into summer and it brings heightened fire danger. We all need to do our part.”
