[ARCHIVED] Code Enforcement Week Next Week

During the week of October 4th through the 10th, 2020, people across California will join together to recognize the important role that code professionals serve to promote the general health and safety of the public and environment.  These professionals work tirelessly in the community to ensure property owners are abiding by County, State, and Federal laws and regulations dealing with various issues of building, zoning, housing, environmental, health, and life safety.  Upholding these regulations is pivotal in maintaining a safe community for residents and visitors alike.

In 2019 alone, Nevada County Code and Cannabis staff investigated approximately 532 complaints regarding various violations of County, State, and Federal laws and regulations.  Often, code professionals fill multiple roles in the course of their case work and can be found frequently collaborating with local and state health departments, environmental departments, and law enforcement agencies.

Code professionals sometimes find themselves as the connecting point between property owners and County and State services.  They are frequently required to fill multiple roles, giving them a diverse skill set to handle even the most challenging situations.  These professionals are highly trained and share the goals of the organization in maintaining a safe environment free from blight.  Lastly, as they prioritize public education over enforcement, these professionals are in the field communicating with the public on a daily basis, often times putting themselves into potentially dangerous situations for the betterment of the County and its residents.

Members of our community are encouraged to join together during Code Compliance Appreciation Week to honor those who work to make our communities a safer place to live and recreate.
