[ARCHIVED] Nevada County Fish and Wildlife Commission Grant Program Now Open

Grant Funding Available Proposal Due November 30, image of wildlife with a tree in a circle.

The Nevada County Fish and Wildlife Commission is now soliciting grant proposals for the Fiscal Year 2022/2023. The grant program is entirely supported through the Nevada County Fish and Wildlife Propagation Fund, which receives revenues resulting from violations of Fish and Game laws and regulations in the County. The funds, as designated in the California Fish and Game Code §13103, are to benefit the fish and wildlife resources of Nevada County. Projects that protect, conserve, propagate, and/or preserve fish and wildlife resources in the County are encouraged to apply.

The grant period is now open with an application submittal deadline of November 30, 2021. The Nevada County Fish and Wildlife Commission requests that applicants also provide an oral presentation of their project at their December 07, 2021 meeting.

Previous grants helped fund projects including the building of a Raptor Flight cage for reconditioning raptors to be released after rehabilitation, habitat restoration projects along the Truckee River corridor, as well as habitat restoration along the Independence Trail impacted by the Jones Fire in 2020. “These projects funded in part by the Propagation Fund truly benefit all residents of Nevada County and those that come to visit,” says Chris de Nijs, Nevada County Agricultural Commissioner, and ex officio member of the Commission.

A recommendation on specific project funding from the Nevada County Fish and Wildlife Commission will be forwarded to the Nevada County Board of Supervisors, who has final decision-making authority for expenditures from the Fund. Grants awarded will be paid during the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2022/23.
