[ARCHIVED] Get Your New Building Projects Permitted with New Unpermitted Improvement (formerly As-Built) Policy

Add a heading (1)

Have you ever wanted to ask questions about your property but are worried that you will be opening up a can of worms? Have you wanted to get a building permit for a renovation project but are concerned about the unpermitted shed on your property? The Nevada County Community Development Agency (CDA) is here to help!

Existing unpermitted structures and improvements can be common throughout rural Nevada County. As a property owner wanting to legalize their property and/or obtain proactive building permits and other land-use permits this can be intimidating. CDA just implemented a new policy that helps make permitting more accessible, and achievable, and removes barriers to obtaining new permits.

This revised policy addresses many of the hurdles and concerns for property owners and the development community. This policy embraces and incentivizes the proactive permitting to improve health and safety while not being punitive during the process. CDA wants to partner with the community to build successful and safe projects while also protecting property owners’ investments. To review the specifics read the Land-Use Permitting Associated with Preexisting Unpermitted Improvement Policy document.

If you have any questions about this updated policy, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Nevada County Building Department at 530-265-1222 or BuildingDept@co.nevada.ca.us. Customer feedback is vital to the future success and improvement of the County; the best ideas to improve our services come from our customers!
