With the recent snow melt, work has begun on the Pines to Mines National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment. Field verification of the proposed trail alignment was completed by a team of staff and volunteers from the United States Forest Service, Bicyclists of Nevada County, and Truckee Trails Foundation. Field biological and botanical assessments began in June, and the cultural resource assessment started in early July. These studies are being conducted by Dudek, an environmental and engineering firm. The Environmental Assessment is on track to be completed by December 2023 with an anticipated signed decision by the Tahoe National Forest Supervisor to follow.
Pines to Mines is an epic long-distance multi-use trail project that will connect eastern and western Nevada County and the Town of Truckee and the City of Nevada City through a route in the Tahoe National Forest.
