[ARCHIVED] Sierra Collage Students Now Ride Free with Their Sierra College ID on Nevada County Transit

Ride Free with Your Share Sierra College ID

Rocklin, Calif. August 19, 2022—Starting Aug. 22, 2022, currently enrolled Sierra College students simply need to show their student ID to access unlimited free rides on fixed-route services provided by participating public transit operators in Placer and Nevada counties.

The “Ride Free With Your Sierra College Student ID” pilot program is a partnership between Placer County Transit (PCT), Roseville Transit, Auburn Transit, Nevada County Connects (NCC), and Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART).

“It is really exciting to bring together all these different agencies for the common purpose of helping students,” said Ken Broadway, Rocklin Vice Mayor and Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) Board member.

Ride Free with Your Sierra College ID is increasing student access to public transit and lowering the cost to attend Sierra,” said Sierra College Superintendent/President Willy Duncan. “With the support of the Sierra College Foundation, our Board of Trustees, PCTPA, and now our local transit partners, we’re meeting the basic needs of our students through new programs like Ride Free that make higher education more accessible and affordable.”

In order to run effectively, all participating transit agencies devoted resources to the development of this program. “Each participating agency believes in this program and is willing to contribute what is necessary in order to create access for the students and cover a portion of costs to provide free transit services,” said Bruce Houdesheldt, Roseville Vice Mayor and PCTPA Board member.

This program is also open to Ghidotti Early College High School students who are enrolled at Sierra College, which is very exciting news.

"This is phenomenal news for Ghidotti students and families who face the unique challenge of living all over the county and having no school bus program.  In addition, many students have different start and end times to their school day so the flexibility this will provide them is amazing.  Thank you to the Sierra College Foundation and transit services for partnering in this important resource for our community" said Jennifer Hurst-Crabb, Ghidotti Liaison.
