The Nevada County Offices of the Assessor, Auditor-Controller, and Treasurer-Tax Collector are well underway in implementing the new on-line property tax system with the expectation to go live with Stage 1 within the next week. Nevada County is joining 30 other counties across California who use the Megabyte Property Tax Systems, which will provide a fully-integrated functionality among the three offices.
One important change is that all parcels, accounts, and other assessments will be assigned new parcel numbers. The Assessor Parcel Number (APN) configuration has changed with the addition of two zeroes added to the old number. For example, the old parcel number 01-234-56 (7 digits) will add two zeros and is now 001-234-056 (9 digits). Manufactured homes in mobile home parks will have completely new numbers beginning with 910. For example, APN 97-320-13 for a manufactured home is now 910-000-880.
Once fully implemented, this change will be integrated with the Assessor, Auditor-Controller, Treasurer-Tax Collector and Clerk-Recorder offices along with the Community Development Agency's Accela Citizen Access system and Geographical Information Systems' MyNeighborhood maps.
Beginning July 26th, those searching for property information using the MyNeighborhood web application are encouraged to search by address or by selecting parcels on the map. The search results will display the updated parcel number. If you favor searching by parcel number, you will need to search using the updated parcel number format. The parcel report launched from the search results also will display the updated parcel numbering format as well.
For those searching for permit records in the Accela Citizen Access system, note that searching by the 7-digit number will only display permits issued under that 7-digit number, and searching by the 9-digit number will only display permits issued under that 9-digit number. Therefore, you are encouraged to search by address when possible.
As with any new system, there will be an adjustment period for those that interact with the new tool. Your patience is appreciated for those bumps that might occur. Our end goal is to better serve our citizens. If you have any questions, please contact the Assessor’s Office, Auditor-Controller’s Office, or Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office and we will be happy to assist you.
