Nevada County’s Local Oral Health Program recently completed oral health screenings at four elementary schools in Nevada County—Union Hill, Ready Springs, Scotten Elementary, and Bell Hill. 360 students in grades TK-2 were screened! Special thanks to Lindsey Robinson, DDS, and Parker White, DDS, for volunteering their time for screenings at Union Hill and Ready Springs and to Kirsten Valentine, DDS, and Barbara Degraw, RDH, for volunteering at Scotten Elementary School, and to Carolina Blanco, DDS for volunteering at Bell Hill Elementary School. These oral health screenings are possible because of the generosity of our local dentists and registered dental hygienists.
The oral health screenings for students in grades K-2 promote oral health education with elementary students, including the importance of brushing and flossing, while dental professionals screen students to identify any potential concerns or emergent needs. The Local Oral Health program has a number of additional oral health screenings lined up in the coming months as the program tries to ensure all Kindergarten students in Nevada County schools have seen a dental professional.
