Many people in our community are struggling with the increased cost of utilities and other necessities. But did you know that there are resources available to help with utility costs? From internet and phone services to gas and electric, there are programs available that offer financial assistance to eligible residents. Nevada County also offers several Public Assistance Programs to help low-income households with food, medical coverage, and cash assistance. For information about public assistance programs offered through Nevada County, call 530-265-1340 or go to our Public Assistance website.
Utility Assistance Programs
Project GO
Project Go Inc offers several different types of assistance including the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Low-Income Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) and the Weatherization Assistance Programs (WAP). The Home Energy Assistance Program can provide assistance in a range of $350 to $1,000 based on income and household energy costs and can be used to pay for gas, electric, propane or firewood. CARE Program
The California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) Program provides discounts on gas and electric bills of up to 20% off your monthly bill. The CARE Program is offered by PG&E and Southwest Gas Corporation. To sign up for this program, contact your gas/electric services provider. If you receive gas and/or electric services from someone other than PG&E or Southwest Gas Corporation, you can contact your provider to see if they participate in the CARE Program.
Affordable Connectivity Program
The Affordable Connectivity Program is a federal program that offers a discount on internet services for eligible households and offers a one-time discount (up to $100) on the purchase of a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer. To apply, call 877-384-2575 or go to AffordableConnectivity.gov.
California LifeLine Telephone Services Program
The California LifeLine Telephone Services Program offers discounted or free phone service on your home or cell phone. You can sign up for this service by contacting your current phone provider and asking them about the California LifeLine program.
