The community came together on Tuesday for a beautiful ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new affordable housing development at Cashin's Field in Nevada City. The project is the culmination of a collaboration between multiple local and state agencies to bring an affordable housing project to the City of Nevada City in many years, if ever.

The now fully occupied project provides 51 units of housing, including 11 one-bedroom, 26 two-bedroom, and 14 three-bedrooms apartments. All units are designated for 30-60% area median income.

At the entrance of Cashin’s Field, a granite block bears the land acknowledgment to the Nisenan Tribe. Shelly Covert, the spokesperson for the Nisesnan Tribe, spoke at the ceremony.  “The word Tuküdy means little field,” Covert said. "The project is located within the Nisenan townsite of Oustamah, pretty close to the center of it," according to Covert.

The project is a collaboration between the Regional Housing Authority, Affordable Housing Development Corporation, the City of Nevada City, and the County of Nevada. The California State Treasurer’s Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC) 9% Tax Credits were critical in securing construction and permanent financing for the project.

Speakers for the event  included California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, staff representing U.S. Congressman Kevin Kiley, and officials from Nevada County, City of Nevada City, Regional Housing Authority, Affordable Housing Development Corporation, and more.
