Goodbye paper checks, hello cards! Nevada County's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is thrilled to announce that we will be going live with electronic benefits in September 2019. This will be much like a debit card and will be easy to swipe and use.
WIC programs help to reduce the effects of poverty such as low birth weight by providing vouchers for healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and other community services. WIC serves babies and children up to age 5, pregnant women, new mothers, dads, grandparents, and foster parents of young children. Working families are welcome too!
WIC vouchers can be used to purchase lots of whole foods and we offer many organic options. The new WIC electronic benefits card will allow for easier and more discreet grocery checkout. Families will have freedom to spread out purchases throughout the month and see fewer checkout errors. Stores will see faster transactions and payment. The WIC mobile site will be able to scan items to see if they're WIC approved, check appointments, and remaining benefits.
Nevada County is excited about this coming to our community and can't wait to share it with our WIC families. To see if you qualify for our program or make an appointment, call the WIC Front Desk at (530) 265-1454 or email us at WICNevadaCounty@co.nevada.ca.us.
