[ARCHIVED] Public Participation Sought on Active Transportation Plan

About the Active Transportation Plan

As part of the regional transportation planning process, the Nevada County Transportation Commission (NCTC), in coordination with the County of Nevada, City of Grass Valley, City of Nevada City, and Town of Truckee, has contracted with the consulting firm Fehr & Peers to prepare an Active Transportation Plan covering all jurisdictions within Nevada County. The Plan will evaluate pedestrian and bicycle needs, and identify and prioritize active transportation projects by jurisdiction. Input from local governments and the public will be incorporated into the plan, as well as information from the previously adopted Nevada County Bicycle Master Plan (updated 2016), Town of Truckee Trails & Bikeways Master Plan (2015), and Nevada County Pedestrian Improvement Plan (updated 2014). Adoption of the Plan allows each jurisdiction to be eligible for a broader base of funding opportunities for Plan projects, which include sidewalks, bike lanes, and multi-use paths and trails.

Public Participation

NCTC has reached out to the community this summer at local farmers markets throughout Nevada County, with press releases, radio announcements, and a project website with an interactive map. All members of the public are encouraged to participate in Plan development, including identifying and voting for specific projects, by using the online mapping tool that closes on October 7th.

NCTC will then hold a public workshop to solicit public comments on the project prioritization list on October 18, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Grass Valley City Council Chambers at 125 East Main Street.  At this meeting, NCTC will present more details on the project and have printed maps for public markup and comment. NCTC will utilize this feedback to prepare a final Plan, which will then be brought to each jurisdiction's governing body in winter 2018/19 for approval. Once the final Plan has been approved, it will be used as the basis for funding applications for projects that have been identified and prioritized in the Plan, including but not limited to Cycle 5 of the ATP Funding Program, which is expected to be announced in May 2019.
