[ARCHIVED] Nevada County Coast Guard Air Station Civic Tour

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors engaged in a Civic tour with the Sacramento Coast Guard Air Station last week.  The purpose of the tour was to solidify the County’s strategic alliance with our military partners and the various programs the County has developed to attract separating military personnel for County careers and our Military Appreciation program.   Ed Scofield, the Chair and Sue Hoek from district 4 led the delegation hosted by Captain Ian Bastek the Air Station Commander.

Captain Bastek provided a mission brief of the units responsibilities, which spans from Canada to South America.  The unit is the only Coast Guard who Flies the C27-J   medium range surveillance aircraft fleet, along with its HC-144 Ocean Sentries, to perform drug and migrant interdiction, disaster response, and search and rescue missions.  The Nevada County team was provided a tour of the aircraft along with the capabilities that the platform provides which support the various missions the unit supports.

The tour left a lasting impression of professionalism the units personnel displayed and their service to our great nation further solidifies our partnership and our unwavering support to the men and woman who don a uniform and protect our freedoms.

Chair Scofield presented five members of the unit Challenge Coins who were identified as superior performers during a lunch with the units leadership team.
