[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Small Business Week April 30th through May 6th

For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has celebrated National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. This year's celebration takes place from April 30th to May 6th.

Since 1963, the SBA has assisted and counseled small businesses throughout the country.  There are approximately 31 million small businesses which make up around 99% of all the businesses in the country. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, there were 3,148 businesses in Nevada County.

The aim of Small Business Week is to honor Nevada County entrepreneurs who have played their part in bringing new ideas to life and helping our economy grow. Nevada County residents are encouraged to shop local--this week and every week--and thank those small businesses that have continued to serve our residents during some of the most difficult times in our county’s recent history.

Nevada County’s new Economic Development Office is working hand-in-hand with local and regional economic partners to provide services and resources to help new, struggling, and expanding businesses in our community succeed.

In 1963, President John F. Kennedy created the first proclamation, which became an annual practice to encourage other small business owners to share their stories and success. We want to hear your success stories! Contact Kimberly Parker in the Nevada County Economic Development Office by email or by phone at 530-470-2795 to share your story.
