May is National Building Safety Month; this month brings building safety to the forefront personally, locally, and globally. Every month is an opportunity to build safety in our communities. Small improvements can make a significant difference and save lives and property.
Building Safety Professionals and You
Building Safety Professionals are the heart of the Nevada County Building Department. “We view ourselves as key partners to your project’s long-term safety and want to support you through your project,” Rodney McClung shared.
Our team works to ensure your project meets current building codes starting with our permit technicians, Rodney, Shianne, Stacy, and Julie, who answer initial questions and process permits. Plans examiners Nick and Monte review your projects for building safety. Our team of inspectors, James, Ben, Jason, Bo, and Cameron, will assist you with inspections and finalizing your project.
“This is a great team, and this team works hard to research, review, and support projects within our community. Come in and get to know our outstanding team of building professionals. Our door is always open to discuss possible projects. We will do our best to introduce you to our Planning and Environmental Health colleagues and help you understand your project before you begin,” said George Schureck, Building Department Director.
Building Safety Starts at Home
Building Safety impacts many aspects of everyday life and starts at home. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, emergency exits and windows, defensible space, and vegetation management minimize risks and dangers to your family and home. Take this month to assess and evaluate some of these small steps to improve building safety at home.
Prepare Your Community
Building codes can protect your property and save lives. Whether it’s supporting snow loads or hardening your home, code standards are designed to safeguard your home and our communities against disasters. If you have not done so already, know your zone, prepare, and plan your route using the Evacuation Route Pre-Planner on the Ready Nevada County Dashboard and pack an emergency go bag.
