When the temperatures drop in Nevada County, many of us feel the chill inside of our homes. Weatherizing your home is a great way to keep out the cold while saving money on energy bills. Nevada County residents with low income have a few different options available to weatherize their homes and save money on utility bills.
Project Go
A non-profit organization that has been around since 1978, Project Go’s programs provide direct financial assistance to ease the burden of high energy utility costs, and/or installation of quality weatherization products to improve home energy efficiency.
Qualified applicants are selected on a first come first served basis, with priority given to those with the highest utility costs in relation to income, as well as vulnerable populations (including the elderly, disabled, and small children).
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)
Proper weatherization of a home is vital to the success of energy conservation and the cost-saving goals of the Project Go program. Project Go can provide free weatherization services and products to improve a home’s energy efficiency and reduce overall utility costs, including attic insulation, weather-stripping, caulking, minor home repairs, and related conservation measures.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
HEAP provides financial assistance for Nevada County residents in the form of an annual (once every 12 months) utility payment for gas, electric, propane or firewood to help with the high costs of heating and/or cooling. Annual utility bill assistance can range from $350 to $1000, depending on the total household income and energy costs.

PG&E
Energy Savings Assistance (ESA) Program
PG&E’s Energy Savings Assistance program can assist renters and homeowners to upgrade or repair heat pump water heaters, furnaces, and lighting at no charge. Participants must live in a house, mobile home or apartment that is at least five years old. Income guidelines apply.
