It's crunch time for the busy building season with projects trying to work towards making their projects weather tight prior to the incoming winter weather. During this time it is easy to forget about grading, drainage and erosion control for your project.
Erosion Control Measures & Tips
As of October 15th erosion control measures need to be onsite and installed based on best management practices (BMP's) prior to any rain event. Having these erosion control measures will help protect you from soil erosion on your site, losing control of site drainage, fines and lawsuits. A few tips when installing erosion control measures:
- Follow your projects stamped set of plans showing erosion control placement locations, materials and general requirements.
- Install erosion control measures early and review at the end of each work day. Materials may need to be replaced or altered based on onsite activities.
- Have additional erosion control materials onsite in case of emergency. You never know when a problem will occur, but is usually happens at the worst time.
- When unsure about what is required, contact your project engineer and the Building Department for clarification prior to doing the work.
