Congressman Kevin Kiley spent the day in western Nevada County on Jan. 26, meeting with supervisors, the Nevada County Youth Commission, representatives from the CAL Fire, and others.
Kiley met with Supervisor Heidi Hall and expressed support for the Board’s preferred option for replacing the 1905 Edwards Crossing Bridge to expand ingress/egress options for emergencies. Alternative 2 would build a new 500-foot-span bridge about 1,000 feet upstream of the existing bridge while leaving the existing bridge up for pedestrians. He plans to submit a letter to Caltrans in favor of the option.
In addition, Kiley toured CAL FIRE’s Emergency Command Center, a call dispatch center at the Nevada County Airport in Grass Valley. At the site, he met Supervisor Lisa Swarthout and acknowledged the value the center brings to the region. He also toured the Sheriff's training facility with Sheriff Shannan Moon, Supervisor Swarthout, and staff to learn about future goals of the Sheriff's Office and meet local K9 Officers.
Kiley also participated in a special meeting of the Youth Commission, where he learned about the group’s top three policy objectives:
- Youth and Recreation/Transportation/Career Technical Education
- Youth and Mental Health/Substance Abuse
- Youth and School Food Program/Food Insecurity
“This was a great day,” said County Executive Officer Alison Lehman. “We appreciate having our congressman take the time to learn about all we have going on in Nevada County.”
