About 1,500 ballots remain to be counted in Nevada County from Tuesday’s Presidential Primary Election as of 10 p.m. Tuesday night. That number is expected to increase as election workers continue to process ballots returned near the end of poll hours.

As of counts completed by midnight, 29 percent, or 21,753 of Nevada County’s 74,201 registered voters cast ballots in the election.

Unofficial election results are available at www.NevadaCountyCa.gov/March5Election.

The elections canvass, or certification process, begins Thursday, March 7.  Barring unforeseen circumstances, updates will be posted every Friday and Tuesday until the process is complete.

“The election went smoothly,” said Registrar of Voters Natalie Adona. “Thank you to all the voters who participated in this process.”

The Elections Office has until the end of the day March 12 to accept any ballot returned in the mail and postmarked on Election Day. The Elections Office has up to 30 days to certify the election and may finish sooner than the statutory deadline.
