[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Safely: Fireworks can Spark Wildfires

NewsFlash_Fireworks

The Nevada County Office of Emergency Services reminds the community that wildfires can be ignited by fireworks. Possessing, transporting, or using fireworks is illegal in Nevada County. For more details on California Firework laws and safety, please visit ReadyforWildfire.org.

Fireworks aren’t the only wildfire concern this weekend. With hot weather, high fire risk and increased outdoor visitation, we all need to do our part to stay ready and stay safe. A few reminders:

· Do not use a lawn mower on weeds or dry grass.

· Properly dispose of cigarettes and matches.

· Avoid power equipment that creates sparks.

· Make sure no vehicle parts drag on the ground, including towing chains.

Celebrate responsibly at the many events occurring throughout Nevada County.
