[ARCHIVED] Final Election Count to Take Time

Election staff 350

Nevada County Elections has about 53,290 ballots left to count from the Nov. 5 General Election. To date, 15,486 ballots have been counted.

“Counting ballots takes time, and our priority is ensuring every eligible vote is counted accurately,” said Registrar of Voters Natalie Adona. “We understand the anticipation and thank everyone for allowing us the time to complete this essential process.”

The next count update is expected to be posted at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.  Unofficial election results are available at www.NevadaCountyCa.gov/November5Election.

Nevada County Elections thanks all voters for participating in the General Election and appreciates the community’s patience as it continues the important work of counting ballots. As a reminder, under state law, all mailed ballots postmarked on or before Election Day Tuesday and received by Nov. 12 will be counted.

Throughout the coming days, the elections staff will process and verify ballots, as well as ballots cast conditionally and provisionally at Vote Centers. Because of a printer’s error affecting readability on some ballots, some ballots need to be rescanned, which adds more steps than usual to the process.

Nevada County Elections remains committed to transparency. Election results will continue to be updated Tuesdays and Fridays until the count is finished. Adona is hopeful the count will be completed before Thanksgiving; by state law all counties must certify on Dec. 3.
