The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) is pleased to announce that 10-year-old Makenzie Pitts has won the Sheriff’s second annual Children’s Holiday Card Contest. Pitts is a fifth-grade student at Ready Springs Elementary School in Penn Valley and has much to look forward to as champion.
As the contest winner, Pitts has won a patrol ride to school, a Donuts with Deputies party for her entire classroom, a meet and greet with Sheriff Shannan Moon, and most importantly, her artwork will be published as the official holiday card for the Sheriff’s Office.
NCSO received 73 holiday drawings for consideration from Nevada County children ranging from 4 to 12 years old.
“Many of the children were incredibly thoughtful with their designs, factoring in key elements unique to our Sheriff’s Office as well as Nevada County as a whole,” said Sheriff Shannan Moon. “It made narrowing down a winner all the harder among so many outstanding submissions.”
Sheriff Shannan Moon, along with her leadership team, independently reviewed every submission and each voted for their top pick; Pitts was quickly identified as the clear winner.
“We are grateful to every child who took the time to spread holiday cheer with their drawings,” added Sheriff Moon. “All of our staff have greatly enjoyed looking at all the pictures so we are of course going to ensure the community can enjoy them, too.”
Every child’s submission is now featured as part of a video slideshow:
Submissions were received from the following 10 schools and homeschool programs: Williams Ranch Elementary School, Mount St. Mary’s Academy, Alta Sierra Elementary School, Ready Springs Elementary School, Areta Charter Academy, Clear Creek Elementary School, Union Hill Elementary School, Lyman Gilmore Middle School, Twin Ridges Home Study Charter School, and Yuba River Charter School.
