GRASS VALLEY, Calif. — Calling all Millennials and Gen Z-ers! If you want to know how to make a personal budget so you can pay for gas and think about actually retiring someday, or if you’ve gone incognito to Google what a 1040 tax form is, or if you just want to learn how to cook for yourself, Grass Valley Library’s new monthly #Adulting program is the place to start.
Beginning January 6, 2025, the library will host free monthly presentations by local experts on everything from personal finance and taxes to housing and cooking basics. These events will take place on the first Monday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the main reading room of the Grass Valley Library.
Kick-Off Event: Figuring Out Your Personal Finances
The first session, “Figuring Out Your Personal Finances,” happens Monday, January 6, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the main reading room. This presentation will cover topics like types of financial accounts and how to create a budget. A Welcoming Space for Learning and Growth
Brittany Blake, the library’s adult programming coordinator, explains that the program’s goal is to create a space for adults in their 20s and 30s to explore challenging topics in a welcoming environment.
“As a 30-something myself, I know it can be hard to find time around a work schedule, and it’s intimidating to ask a question when you feel like everyone already knows the answer,” Blake said. “Bringing in local experts for after-hours events is a way for us to make space for those conversations and questions, and to remind fellow Millennials and Gen Z-ers how great the library is, too.”
“It’s really exciting to kick off 2025 with this new series,” Blake added. “Our libraries love to see our community connecting with resources, and this is just another way we can help forge those connections.”
