The Nevada County Youth Commission is seeking new members for the upcoming school year, August 2025-June 2026.
The commission is looking for members ages 14-19 who live in Nevada County and/or are enrolled in a Nevada County school system. Commissioners serve a one-year term. There are 12 openings available.
“Serving on the Youth Commission has been an incredible opportunity to amplify our youth voices and make a real impact in our community,” said Chair of the Emergency Preparedness Committee Arianna Drageset and two-term youth commissioner. “I've gained valuable leadership skills, worked on meaningful projects, and connected with peers who are just as passionate about creating positive change in Nevada County.”
The group serves as a bridge between the next generation and the Board of Supervisors and identifies, connects, and advocates for issues facing Nevada County youth. In 2024, a youth commissioner developed the first-ever youth emergency preparedness campaign, which has become a key priority for both the Youth Commission and the Board of Supervisors. This project, born from the commission’s advocacy, continues to be a part of an ongoing internship program and remains a tangible example of how youth-driven initiatives are shaping policy in Nevada County.
Board of Supervisors Chair Heidi Hall, who recently named 2025 the Year of Youth, looks forward to hearing recommendations from the current youth commissioners in June. “Over the past year, these youth commissioners have delved into the issues facing their peers. I am excited to translate their insights into meaningful policy action,” she said.
This year will mark the first time youth commissioners will make formal policy recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
The deadline to apply is Friday, April 25, and interviews will be scheduled for May. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to confirm the appointments in June.
