Last week, Chris de Nijs, Nevada County agricultural commissioner; Andrew Trygg, Nevada County Fair manager; and Katie Bielen, Nevada County Farm Bureau president, attended California Agriculture Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Ag Day is an annual event that celebrates California’s agricultural community and showcases the state's diverse crops and commodities. It provides an opportunity for the agricultural community to unite, express appreciation, and offer educational insights to the public, government leaders, and state legislators.
Agriculture is a key economic driver in Nevada County. According to the 2023 crop report, the county's agricultural industry generated $24.4 million, encompassing livestock and products, pasture and rangeland, nurseries and flowers, wine grapes, other fruits and vegetables, and timber products. These industries highlight the diversity of the county and the work done to support farmers and ranchers.
"By attending Ag Day, we reconnect with policymakers and government leaders to build connections and highlight the good work in our county," said de Nijs.
