Every Californian with an email address and an internet connection can now visit California’s Bookshelf and access more than 300,000 eBooks and eAudiobooks—thanks to a partnership between the California State Library and The Palace Project. Simply download the Palace app to any mobile device to get started!
Follow these five simple steps to access California’s Bookshelf and create a virtual library card:
Download the free Palace app on your iOS or Android device.
Use the “Find My Library” search function inside the app to locate “California’s Bookshelf.”
Browse the collection and select a title to either “Get” or “Reserve.”
Choose the option to create a virtual library card and complete the form. You will need to enable the app’s location permission one time to create your card.
Check your email for your new library card number. Use it along with your password to borrow books!
