As the Board of Supervisors prepares to consider a potential ordinance that may allow for living in alternative housing like RVs on private property, supervisors and staff are seeking public feedback first.
"This meeting is about shaping the future of how we live in our community. It's essential that we hear from as many people as possible on this topic," noted Board Chair Heidi Hall.
A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Board Chambers, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City. The meeting will begin with an introduction by staff and will be followed by about an hour of in-person public comment.

During discussions leading up to the Board of Supervisors’ approval of the use of tiny homes on wheels as permanent residents earlier this year, many community members requested that the ordinance be expanded to allow all homes on wheels. They pointed out that many residents are already living illegally in RV and live in fear of being kicked out of their homes. Staff will be looking for input on appropriate zoning, parcel size, and other considerations to ensure the ordinance is consistent with community character and addresses the needs of the citizens of Nevada County.
“Whether you're for or against the idea, your voice matters in making sure any decision we make reflects the needs and values of the entire community,” said Vice Chair Lisa Swarthout.
