Registration Now Open for Sheriff’s Community Academy
Nevada City, CA – This August marks the return of the fifth annual Community Academy, a free, 12-week course offered annually by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) that serves as an opportunity for community members to learn about the role law enforcement plays in the community while giving participants a more in-depth understanding of their own Sheriff’s Office.
“This is a hands-on, one-of-a-kind experience that allows students to learn the inner workings of the Sheriff’s Office, not typically available to the general public,” explained NCSO Sergeant Andrew Liller, lead instructor for the Community Academy. “While much of the education will take place in a classroom setting, students will have a chance to see and explore vehicles and equipment utilized in major incidents as well as learn to dust for prints and process evidence, all designed to give participants a deeper understanding of the Sheriff’s Office and the judicial system at large.”
While the class is not designed to prepare students for a future career in law enforcement, it has been beneficial to students considering criminal justice career options and to those seeking to advance their personal knowledge and understanding of law enforcement and NCSO’s role and responsibilities in the community.
