Truckee writer Karen “Kat” Terrey was honored by the Board of Supervisors Aug 12 as Nevada County’s fourth poet laureate. The meeting was held in Truckee.

Terrey was selected earlier this year by the Nevada County Arts Council. As the newest poet laureate, she might compose poems to mark important moments, actively engage and support others to develop a love of poetry and inspire literary initiatives of meaning to residents.

She is a writer, editor and writing coach, offering writing services for clients of all ages through her business Tangled Roots Writing.  She teaches poetry and creative writing at Sierra College’s Truckee campus and has served as a poetry editor for the literary journals Pitkin Review and Quay.

Her efforts to bridge communities through writing have included co-hosting a literary reading service in Truckee and leading a popular workshop series in partnership with the Truckee Library, Truckee Cultural District, Nevada County Library and the Senior Center. She earned her masters of fine arts degree from Goddard College in 2007.
