County officials, school officials and community members celebrated the completion of the new $1.3 million Combie Road Multi-Purpose Trail with a ribbon cutting event today.
The paved, concrete trail stretches three-quarters of a mile from Higgins Road to West Hacienda Drive, providing safe, pedestrian-friendly access for residents of Lake of the Pines and neighboring school, Bear River High. It also connects to both the Higgins Village and Higgins Marketplace shopping centers.
"As the supervisor for this district, I’m thrilled to celebrate the opening of this path,” said Supervisor Robb Tucker. “It’s an important investment in our residents’ well-being and I look forward to seeing it enjoyed for generations to come.”
Grass Valley firm Hansen Brothers began construction on the project in June. The work was overseen by the Department of Public Works and funded by the state’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Programs. It is included in the Higgins Area Plan that was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 2023.
“This trail is built to last and gives residents access to enjoy the outdoors and travel safely without a car,” said Principal Civil Engineer Patrick Perkins.
