The State of California started mailing new "chip and tap" EBT cards in January. The new cards will add an extra layer of securit to help safeguard your EBT funds. The new EBT cards are activated when you use the card for the first time, using your existing PIN.
These new cards have the cardholder name and card number printed on the back of the card, instead of the front. If your EBT card has your name and card number printed on the front of the card, your card may be deactivated between now and October 25th. To make sure you can continue using your EBT benefits, you can activate the new card that was mailed to you, call the EBT Customer Service Center at (877) 328-9677 to request a new card, or stop by one of our county offices to have a new card printed for you.
