Public Health Alert: Infant Botulism Outbreak Linked to ByHeart Infant Formula
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other states, has identified an outbreak of infant botulism connected to ByHeart Infant Formula.
Nationwide Recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Branch announced that ByHeart has initiated a nationwide recall of all infant formula products. CDPH and federal officials strongly advise caregivers to stop using ByHeart formula immediately and seek medical care if infants show signs of botulism.
- Symptoms may include poor feeding, constipation, weak cry, and generalized weakness.
- If untreated, infant botulism can progress to respiratory failure and may be life‑threatening. Early recognition and medical care are critical.
Caregiver Support Hotline
To support families, CDPH has launched a dedicated hotline. Caregivers can reach infant botulism experts seven days a week, 7 a.m.–11 p.m., at 1‑833‑398‑2022.
