[ARCHIVED] Celebrating International Board Certified Lactation Consultant’s Day

Support is a key factor in improving breastfeeding rates. Nevada County's Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program assists mothers to meet their goals for optimal nutrition for their babies. There are many benefits to both mother and baby when mothers breastfeed exclusively for 6 months and continues breastfeeding until the baby is at least 1 year old, along with introducing healthy supplemental foods.

As we celebrate International Board Certified Lactation Consultant's Day in March, WIC wants to acknowledge our staff who have received specialized training and are skilled in assisting new mothers as they initiate and maintain breastfeeding:

From our Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program: Debra Wilson, RD, IBCLC; Julie DeHollander, RD, IBCLC; Kris Jessen-Mather, PNP, IBCLC; and Kristina Kuca, CLCE.

From our Maternal Child Adolescent Health (MCAH) Program: Char Weiss-Wenzl, RN, PHN, CLC; Remy Lindsay, RN, PHN; and Cindy Wilson, RN, PHN, IBCLC.

Nevada County's mothers and lactation professionals are dedicated to breastfeeding, resulting in high rates of breastfed infants compared to most other counties, the statewide average, and rates across the U.S. Thanks to each of our Nevada County employees who are instrumental in improving maternal and infant health outcomes through breastfeeding support.

If you need breastfeeding support or assistance, contact WIC at 265-1454 or MCAH at 265-1491.
