The County has completed a Public Review Draft of the 2019-2027 Nevada County Housing Element update. Section 65302(c) of the California Government Code requires every County and City in the State to include a Housing Element as part of its adopted General Plan. The Housing Element is one of seven mandatory elements of the General Plan and the only General Plan element that must be updated every eight years as mandated by the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
The updated Housing Element will examine Nevada County's housing needs, as they exist today, and project future housing needs. The updated Housing Element will set forth community Goals, Objectives, and Policies concerning those needs and include a housing program that responds to current and future needs within the limitations of available resources. The housing program details an eight-year schedule of actions the community is undertaking or plans to undertake to achieve its housing goals and objectives.
The updated Housing Element is prepared in compliance with Section 65302(c) and Article 10.6 of the Government Code and the 2017 State of California, Office of Planning and Research's (OPR) General Plan Guidelines will be used as the guiding principles for the document. Upon its adoption by the Nevada County Board of Supervisors, the updated Housing Element will serve as a comprehensive statement of the County's housing policies and as a specific guide for program actions to be taken in support of those policies.
The public review draft will be available for public comment for a period of 30-days. The draft is available to download by following the link below:
