[ARCHIVED] Environmental Health Department Finishes Phase I for the River Fire

Staff member on site of burnt property for hazardous debris clean up, Phase I of River Fire.

The Nevada County Environmental Health Department and the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) have spent the last couple of weeks working tirelessly to remove hazardous waste from the 94 properties affected by the River Fire within Nevada County. The efforts are led by Nevada County Environmental Health Program Manager David Huff. David’s commitment involves visiting each site and reviewing the property for hazardous debris with the DTSC team. This team has assessed 87 of 94 properties and work should be completed by Thursday, September 9th.  This will wrap up Phase 1 of the hazardous waste clean-up.

Phase II is just on the horizon. To move into Phase II, all Right of Entry Forms must be complete or the property must fill out a “Private Party Opt-Out Form”. Need help understanding your options or help with your Right of Entry Form? On Friday, September 10th, Nevada County will be participating in the FEMA Mobile Registration Intake Center or MRIC for River Fire survivors. On the 10th (this Friday) from 4 pm-8 pm at the Chicago Park Elementary School.

The MRIC will also be open on Saturday and Sunday, September 11-12th from 11 am-5 pm Chicago Park Elementary. If you wish to come by and speak with FEMA, Cal OES, or County representatives. There will be Right of Entry Forms and guidance documentation available for pick up on Saturday and Sunday as well.
