The Nevada County Board of Supervisors is looking for community members to join the Assessment Appeals Board as alternates! Members of the Assessment Appeals Board are involved in the community as a part of an independent entity that works to resolve disputes between taxpayers and the county assessor. The board holds hearings in which they review evidence and render determinations on value and other matters of property tax assessment within the appeals board jurisdiction. The full functions of the board are outlined in Section 1620 et seq. of the Revenue and Taxation Code.
Currently, Nevada County is looking to fill vacancies for two alternate members. Members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and alternates serve one-year terms. Applicants should have a competent knowledge of property appraisal and taxation. Professional experience as a public accountant, licensed real estate broker, attorney, or accredited/certified property appraiser may help meet this requirement. Should alternate members be called to serve on the board, they are compensated per Nevada County Administrative Code Chapter II, Article 13.11.
For further information, contact Tine Mathiasen at ClerkOfBoard@co.nevada.ca.us. Interested community members can apply through the Clerk of the Board’s committees website and should include a resume listing experience and qualifications with their application.
