18th Annual Free Day of Family Fun!
Save the Date! The Gold Country Kiwanis, Nevada County Office of Emergency Services, and Fire Safe Council of Nevada County are once again partnering to produce the Children’s Health, Safety and Fire Preparedness Carnival. This free educational event planned for Saturday, May 6th, from 11:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. will host nearly 2 acres of activity at the Rood Center off Highway 49 at 950 Maidu Ave, Nevada City.
Kids of all ages will see firetrucks and ambulances up close, as well as meet Smokey Bear and his good friend Sparky. With over 75 exhibits, children will have the opportunity to meet the professionals who work to keep our community safe, such as first responders, fire fighters, law enforcement, search and rescue volunteers, emergency medical service workers, and wildfire prevention experts. While at the carnival, free lunch will be served alongside face-painting, bubbles, balloons, and clown entertainment. With attractions like a giant slide, games, and a bike-giveaway this event is fun for the whole family. Parents can hear from Firewise Communities and meet vegetation management contractors who are ready to share defensible space tips.
This year, for the first time, the Summer Camp & Activities Fair will be pairing up with the Carnival to offer a one-stop-shop for kids and caregivers. The Camp Fair has been hosted by the Nevada City Parks & Recreation Department and partners for the past 11 years. Parents can learn about a multitude of summer camp options in one spot to decide what programs are the best fit for their children.
Additional popular attractions include:
- California Highway Patrol’s child safety seat inspections, with new seats provided as needed.
- Grass Valley Police Department’s Bicycle Rodeo with new children’s bike helmets provided as supplies last.
- Nevada County Sheriff’s Office provides flotation vests for children’s water safety.
- Fire Safe Council of Nevada County’s community wildfire preparedness activities.
So come on out – enjoy a day of fun, make summer camp plans, and partake in a free BBQ lunch with salad, fresh fruit, juice, chips and popcorn provided by local businesses.
