The Nevada County Planning Department announces a Community Workshop on the proposed 2023 Housing Ordinance Amendments on June 8th at 6:00 pm at the Eric Rood Administrative Center. The proposed amendments to Nevada County’s Land Use Development Codes (LUDC) intend to bring codes into compliance with recent changes to state law and to continue to remove barriers to housing production while fostering a rural quality of life. On January 26, 2021, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors directed the Planning Department to apply for the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s one-time Regional Early Action Planning (REAP) grant funding. This grant funding focuses on conducting planning activities that will accelerate housing production. Learn more about the Board’s housing objective on our website.
On September 2021, Nevada County was awarded funding from REAP to support five projects, including two projects to update the LUDC to reduce barriers to housing production. Planning Department Staff initially identified several areas where the LUDC could be amended to accelerate housing production and comply with recent changes to state housing, planning, and development laws.
The Nevada County Planning Department conducted outreach with stakeholder groups and members of the public to identify barriers to housing production and to develop and further refine the updates and amendments. Members are invited to this public meeting to learn more about these updates and provide comments on the proposed zoning ordinance amendments. An overall goal is to remove barriers to housing production.
