[ARCHIVED] Nevada County Road Rehab Project Beginning June 24

2024 Road Rehab Project

Nevada County Public Works is starting surfacing along Banner Quaker Hill Road, Cascade Shores (includes entire neighborhood), Discovery Way, Lowhills Road, Mindy Lane, Empress Road, Rattlesnake Road, and Long Valley Road, as part of the 2024 Road Rehab Project, beginning June 24 through mid to late July 2024.

As construction begins in these areas over the next two months, please plan for up to 20-minute delays from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday due to one-lane traffic controls. Motorists will have access throughout construction, and message boards will be placed 72 hours before construction to allow residents to plan accordingly.

The projects will take place on the following county-maintained roads:

  • Banner Quaker Hill Road
  • Cascade Shores (entire neighborhood)
  • Discovery Way
  • Empress Road
  • Rattlesnake Road
  • Long Valley Road
  • Lowhills Road
  • Mindy Lane

VSS International is the contractor for the project. The road will be prepared for the surfacing by sweeping and removing any loose material that may be present. The surfacing applied will be micro-surfacing or chip-seal which are both installed with a wet slurry emulsion process. The contractor will close access to vehicle traffic in freshly surfaced areas for a few hours to allow the coating to harden. Once the surfacing has hardened, the contractor will reopen the area to traffic.

Pavement chip-seal and micro-surfacing play a critical role in maintaining the road’s surface and service life. Roads are selected for rehabilitation based on several factors, including condition and average daily traffic.

Stay Informed
Nevada County Public Works will provide regular project updates on the Nevada County Public Works Facebook and www.NevadaCountyCA.gov/RoadRehab. Residents can also sign up for the County’s weekly newsletter to stay informed of project milestones and progress.
