Nevada County Office of Emergency Services is proud to announce the release of its new 2024 Ready, Set Go! Handbook designed to equip residents with essential information for wildfire preparedness. Residents of Nevada County should be on the lookout for this resource arriving in the mail any day if they have not already received it.
The 32-page handbook includes critical information on creating a fire-resistant home, planning for evacuation in the event of a fire, preparing for extended power shutoffs and more. This year’s version has a fresh look, with a larger magazine format and includes new information on animal and livestock evacuation, air quality impacts, and assisting vulnerable family members, including babies and the elderly.
The Office of Emergency Services sends the handbook to every resident in Nevada County and distributes it at summer events including the Thursday Night Market in Grass Valley and Summer Nights in Nevada City. Copies are also available at the Eric Rood Government Center in Nevada City, the Joseph Center in Truckee, all local fire districts, libraries, schools and online at www.ReadyNevadaCounty.org/Handbook.
As we officially ease into summer, it is crucial for Nevada County residents to be well-prepared for wildfire. This includes knowing your zone, signing up for CodeRED emergency alerts, finding your five allies, packing your go-bag, and researching evacuation routes. Details on important readiness activities and more are all found in the Ready, Set Go! Handbook.
“The safety of residents is our top priority,” said Office of Emergency Services Director Craig Griesbach. “The updated Ready, Set Go Handbook is an invaluable resource that empowers individuals and families to
take steps in safeguarding their homes and loved ones from the threat of wildfire. I urge everyone to take some time to go through this handbook and make a personalized plan of how you and your family will respond in the event of a wildfire.”
