Community Education on the Stay-at-Home Order remains Top Priority Across All County Departments

Nevada County, like the state, continues to be under a Stay-at-Home order. On April 15th, County of Nevada Public Health Officer Dr. Ken Cutler issued a local Stay-at-Home order to help clarify local questions. Projections such as those found at www.covidactnow.org continue to warn against a surge of COVID-19 cases that could overwhelm local healthcare capacity if the state or local Stay-at-Home order is lifted prematurely.

COVID-19 Symptom Tracker Now Available to Collect Community-level Data

Nevada County Public Health understands that our community wants current and up-to-date information about COVID-19. Connecting Point is now providing a way for the public to contribute to the understanding of COVID-19 in our community. 

The Public Health Department encourages the community to help in Connecting Point’s efforts. If you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms that could be related to the COVID-19 virus, including headache, fever, cough, or other respiratory symptoms, please fill out the “Community Symptoms Report” survey.

Board of Supervisors Public Meeting on April 20th 

Pursuant to Governor Gavin Newsom's Executive Order pertaining to the convening of public meetings in
response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the County of Nevada hereby provides notice that it will hold its
regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors by remote. The Board of Supervisors will attend
the meeting and participate to the same extent as if they were present.

First, the Board will deliver a Certificate of Recognition to Ms. Nancy Picker, CAL FIRE Dispatcher, upon her retirement after 46 years in public service and a Certificate of Recognition to the Forest Lake Christian School 2019-20 Girls’Basketball Team. The Board will then consider acceptance of an informational presentation on the Novel Coronavirus by Nevada County Public Health followed by the Office of Emergency Services' Wildfire Preparedness Informational Presentation.
 
After approval of the consent calendar,  the Board will consider approval of a resolution approving a Standard Agreement between the County of Nevada and the State Department of Housing and Community Development for the HOME Grant Program in the maximum amount of $1,000,000.
 
The board will then consider a resolution approving acceptance of $50,000 in “Project Room Key” funding from the California Department Of Social Services for the purpose of securing hotel rooms for temporary housing of individuals who are affected by COVID-19.
 
Following approval of the consent agenda, the Board will vote on a resolution approving a contract between the County of Nevada and Raney Planning & Management, Inc. for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report and contract planning services for the proposed Idaho-Maryland Mine - Rise Grass Valley Project.
 
Finally the Board will conduct a public hearing scheduled at 1:30 p.m. to consider amendments to the Outdoor Event Ordinance.

SYRCL and Safety Officials Say Yuba River Not Yet Safe for Swimming

The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), Nevada County, State Parks and a host of additional government agencies and public safety officials who make up the Yuba River Safety Cohort advise that the Yuba River is flowing too swiftly and is too cold to be safe for swimming.

Especially during these unprecedented times, personal responsibility impacts more than just one person. Keep safe at the river and reduce community exposure to COVID-19 and unnecessary strain on medical resources and first responders.

Cannabis

County of Nevada Receives Cannabis Equity Grant & Hosts Virtual Workshop

Community Development Agency Director, Sean Powers shared this week that the County of Nevada received nearly $150,000 from The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development. The funds will be used to conduct an equity study identifying potential barriers to entering the legal cannabis market. 

Humboldt State University will conduct the study which includes substantial outreach to the county and the cannabis industry. “We foresee more grants will be available in the future and will apply for these in conjunction with any equity program efforts. We feel fortunate to be engaging with Humboldt State University as they are already involved with both Humboldt and Mendocino County's equity programs.” says Powers.

Nevada County Business Taskforce Members, jurisdictional partners and stakeholders attended an informative webinar and round table discussion regarding an update from Health and Human Services Agency, Community Development Agency and Environmental Health Department on the response and recovery efforts to the Coronavirus. 

The webinar agenda included updates on; recovery preparation, County CDA services, availability of Federal and State Business Loans & Grants and an announcement of the Nevada County Emergency Relief Fund.

Nevada County Transit Services Announces the Start of On-Demand Dial-a-Ride Service for Seniors on Gold Country Lift 

Senior Dial-a-Ride service will be available to Western Nevada County residents during the same days, hours and service area as the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit service provided by Gold Country Lift; typically, Monday –Friday 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM and Saturday 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM. The cost per one-way trip is $4.00.

Please note that during the current COVID-19 shelter-in-place we are operating reduced service hours for the safety of our Community.
