Nevada County Relief Fund Announces Third Round of Grants to Small Businesses and “Safety-net” NonprofitsThe Nevada County Relief Fund (NCRF) approved its third round of funding, allocating $220,000 in grants towards small businesses and nonprofits that continue to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, 26 small businesses and 10 safety-net nonprofits will benefit from State Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF), part of the $3 Million total set aside by the Nevada County Board of Supervisors. The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation will steward $25,000 for safety net nonprofits on the eastern side of the County.
"We are honored to yet again do what we can to help our small businesses that continue to feel the effects of the pandemic, and which are now impacted by the Public Safety Power Shutoffs. The resilience shown by our community, and the creative ways people are adjusting to this pandemic is humbling", states Alison Jones-Pomatto, a member of the Community Advisory Council, which provides fundraising and oversight for NCRF efforts.

National Preparedness Month: Red Flag ReadinessNational Preparedness Month (NPM) is recognized each September to promote family and community disaster planning now and throughout the year. Wildfire season is a great time to review your wildfire preparedness. Did you know that a Red Flag Warning often is issued by the National Weather Service when conditions combine to produce the possibility of extreme fire behavior? Any combination of these conditions Strong Winds (25+), High Temperatures Low Humidity Levels (20% and below), Dry Fuels, or Possibility of Dry Lightning Strikes contribute to the start of a Red Flag Warning.
In the event of a Red Flag Warning it is important to follow all recommendations and be prepared for the potential of Public Safety Power Shutoffs. Use the Ready Nevada County Dashboard at www.ReadyNevadaCounty.org/MobileDashboard from your mobile device or www.ReadyNevadaCounty.org/Dashboard from your desktop to find areas affected during Red Flag Warning days or information on nearby wildfires. Learn more about creating an emergency plan and Red Flag Warnings at www.ReadyNevadaCounty.org.
