Residents are encouraged to watch, share, and discuss with loved ones this film as a companion to the detailed Ready, Set, Go! Handbook which will be mailed to Nevada County residents in May 2021. Teen Community Emergency Response Team Bolstered by Homeland Security Grant PurchaseWith wildfire season fast approaching many organizations are getting ready. One of those organizations is the Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. The Teen CERT program is overseen by the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office and plays a vital role in high school disaster readiness. The Teen CERT program is a nationally supported, locally implemented initiative that teaches high school students how to better prepare themselves for hazards that may affect their school and extended community. Before, during, and after disasters, Teen CERT students perform basic response activities, distribute safety information to students, and support the school’s emergency response plan.

No Cost PPE for Small BusinessesThe County of Nevada Office of Emergency Services (OES) is offering local small business owners, with 25 employees or less, masks and hand sanitizer at no cost. This personal protective equipment (PPE) has been made available to California small businesses through the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) in collaboration with the Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA).
PPE will be available for pick up in Western Nevada County at two locations: the Nevada County Contractors Association and the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce. In Truckee, small businesses may pick up PPE from the Truckee Chamber of Commerce.

Nevada County Clerk-Recorder Office Full Services by Appointment Only as Part of Its Phased Re-OpeningBeginning on May 3rd, 2021, the Nevada County Clerk-Recorder Office will take appointments for all in-person/counter services on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. At this time, we cannot offer any same day appointments or walk ins. Please call or email ahead of time to schedule your appointment.
The expansion of services by appointment is part of a phased approach to re-opening the Clerk-Recorder Office, in order to both better serve the public during COVID-19 and maintain staff and public safety. Our services include, but are not limited to, marriages and ceremonies, recordation of documents, requests for vital records, and research time at public computers.

Rx Take Back Day, Saturday, April 24thThis Saturday, April 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. is Prescription (Rx) Drug Take Back Day! This event is free and confidential. Drop off unneeded or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications safely, effectively, and anonymously. Please put pills into a zip-lock bag and dispose of empty pill bottles in trash or recycling. Keep liquid medications in the original bottle and black out confidential information and put in zip-lock bag. Electronic vaping devices and cartridges with NO lithium ion batteries will also be accepted. Help protect our water supply by not flushing medications.

Nevada County Community Library Presents A Virtual Poetry CafeOn Saturday, April 24th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, join the Nevada County Community Library, in partnership with Sierra Poetry Festival for an open mic type, slam jam, poetry reading, coming together celebration! Participants are invited to bring their favorite one-page poem and a cafe style beverage to join in the fun, or just to come and listen. Mosquito Fish Giveaway
The Nevada County Environmental Health Department Vector Control Program will be holding Mosquito Fish Giveaways at the Eric Rood Administrative Building, 950 Maidu Ave, Nevada City. All giveaways will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Drive-thru pick-ups only; please remain in your car. Containers will be provided to safely take the fish home. This year's dates will be: May 6th & 20th, June 3rd & 17th, and July 1st. The mosquito fish need to be delivered to your pond within two hours. The fish will eat mosquito larvae in ponds, watering troughs, birdbaths, and unused swimming pools. The fish are not native to California and preferably should be placed into ponds that cannot drain into the local creeks and streams. This can have negative impacts on the native ecosystem.

SYRCL: Growing Green for the Yuba SurveyIn the two years since Nevada County legalized commercial cannabis cultivation, important changes to where and how people cultivate cannabis have occurred. South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) is seeking feedback from both local residents and from cannabis cultivators regarding the licensing process to better understand what barriers exist to coming into compliance.
Participation in this survey is voluntary and will remain anonymous. This is a SYRCL-led survey to gather information that will help efforts to protect the watershed and unite the community in support of watershed-friendly cannabis cultivation.

Board of Supervisors April 27th Agenda PreviewPursuant to Governor Gavin Newsom's Executive Order pertaining to the convening of public meetings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the County of Nevada hereby provides notice that it will hold its regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors by remote. The Board of Supervisors will attend the meeting and participate to the same extent as if they were present. Tuesday's April 27th meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. Please refer to pages 7 and 8 of the agenda to find the ways you can provide public comment. Highlights on the agenda include but are not limited to the following. Please visit the link below for the full agenda. Following the consent calendar, the Board will consider a resolution accepting the nomination and designation of the Poet Laureate, Kirsten Casey, by Nevada County Arts Council, as the third Nevada County Poet Laureate.
Next, the Board will consider a resolution proclaiming April 2021 as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month in Nevada County.
Following public comment, the Board will consider a resolution approving the award of $500,000 for the Last-Mile Broadband Grants Program, authorizing the Chair of the Board of Supervisors to execute agreements with four awardees.
During the afternoon session, the Board will consider a request for Board direction on the Expenditure Plan for Local Funding that is provided to the County of Nevada in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
