California Offers Pfizer Booster Shots

With the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup review and approval of the CDC’s recommendations regarding COVID-19 vaccine boosters, California is now cleared to follow the federal recommendations that certain individuals can receive a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The booster dose is intended to provide enhanced protection to people who may be at greater risk of serious illness due to COVID-19.

At this time, booster doses are only available to those who have been fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. Boosters should be administered at least six months after an individual has received their last dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Housing is Key: Eviction Protections Change on October 1st

The CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program is still available. It covers 100% of rent and utilities. Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis until program funds are exhausted. Renters and landlords impacted by COVID-19 who need help with rent should apply immediately, before funding is no longer available.

Priority assistance for the program is being given to those most at-risk of eviction. Eligible renters and landlords are encouraged to apply today to receive 100% of unpaid rent and utilities. Apply at HousingIsKey.com or call 833-430-2122.

Pink Patch Project Highlights Breast Cancer Awareness

California Department of Cannabis Control Tours Nevada County

On Friday, September 22, various members of the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance and the Cannabis Compliance Division Program Manager, Jeff Merriman accompanied the Department of Cannabis Control (DCC)  on a cannabis-specific tour of local businesses throughout Nevada County. The Cannabis Compliance Division works in partnership with the community to permit and maintain a safe, legal, environmentally responsible, and thriving cannabis industry.

The tour provided an opportunity to showcase the role Nevada County plays within the legal, permitted cannabis industry ranging from cultivation, testing, processing, and sales. There were multiple stops throughout the day including a visit to a fully permitted, outdoor cultivation farm with on-site processing followed by a visit to Nevada County’s local testing, manufacturing, distribution, and retail businesses.

Take care of the air we breathe, Nevada County!
District 5 Supervisor Hardy Bullock sponsored a board resolution proclaiming this Tuesday, October 6 as California Clean Air Day here in Nevada County. Below are some tips on how you can help reduce negative impacts on air quality and improve the air in indoor spaces.

Preserve Air Quality

  • Don’t idle your engine excessively.
  • Buy locally grown produce.
  • Reduce your consumption of meat.
  • Make all online purchases in one order each week.
  • Be fire wise. Avoid any activities that may create a spark, especially on Red Flag Warning days. (Wildfire smoke is much more harmful to humans than vehicular emissions.)
Care for Indoor Air Quality
  • Keep indoor plants.
  • Change the cabin air filter in your car.
  • Change your home air filter (e.g., in an HVAC system) regularly.
  • Use indoor air purifiers, especially during smoke season.

Free Gallery Tours Offered on Indigenous Peoples Day

Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe and their Tribally guided non-profit CHIRP (California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project) encourage you to come and visit 'UBA SEO: Nisenan Arts and Culture. 'UBA SEO is a brick-and-mortar space located in downtown Nevada City, California.

Currently hanging in the gallery is the Visibility Through Art exhibit which has been extended to show through Indigenous Peoples Day. Here are some upcoming dates and details about the gallery:

CPUC Proposes Decision to Require Communication Companies to Share More with Local Governments in Post-Disaster Situations

The California Public Utilities Commission issued a proposed decision recently that would adopt new post-disaster community engagement and reporting requirements for investor-owned utilities and facilities-based telecommunications service providers in California.

Among other requirements, within 15 days of being allowed access into damaged areas after a State or Federally declared disaster, telecommunications providers must provide the CPUC and the appropriate local or tribal government a report including the following details:

  • A report of what facilities or equipment was damaged;
  • Restoration and/or rebuild plans, including a description of what is being repaired, replaced or added, and maps of where the restoration will occur;
  • The date the facilities-based wireline or wireless provider received access to the damaged area;
  • The timeline to make repairs;
  • Any changes to any energy/communication infrastructure required; and
  • The contact information of the individual responsible for community engagement in these instances.
