Supervisors Award $2 Million in Community Resiliency GrantsOn Tuesday, November 9th, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors unanimously awarded $1,991,884 in “Community Resiliency Grants,” funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), to 32 local nonprofits, small businesses, and special districts.
The County received 73 eligible applications totaling $4,967,963 in requests that met federal guidelines to “respond to the public health emergency or its negative economic impacts, including assistance to households, small businesses, and nonprofits, or aid to impacted industries such as tourism, travel, and hospitality.”
The County’s “Community Resiliency Grants” are intended to support community-serving institutions and programs responding to the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in ways that increase resiliency, support recovery, and provide relief.

Free COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic for School-age ChildrenThe Nevada County Public Health department is hosting a free vaccination clinic for school age children on Tuesday, November 16th, from 2:00 to 5:30 pm at the Veterans Memorial Building in Grass Valley. “We’re offering an opportunity to get local kids vaccinated quickly. With second doses scheduled for December 7th, kids who get vaccinated at the November 16th clinic will be fully protected just in time for the December holidays.” said Public Health Director Jill Blake.
The vaccination event will be geared specifically to young children, with fun activities, a calming corner, and medical professionals on-hand to answer questions. A parent or guardian must be present with any minor receiving a vaccination. Appointments are now available on MyTurn.ca.gov.

Nevada County Public Health Officer Removes Limits on Events, Leaves Masking Requirements in PlaceNevada County’s Public Health Officer, Dr. Scott Kellermann issued an amendment to his August 25, 2021 order to remove limits on events while leaving masking requirements in place. The amended order went into effect at 12:01 am on November 10, 2021.
The amended order: - Removes the local prohibition on indoor and outdoor gatherings or events where 2,500 or more people will be in attendance.
- Rescinds the requirement that events with 500 attendees or more develop and implement a plan to verify vaccination status or proof of a negative test.
- Requires masking indoors regardless of vaccination status.
- Requires masking outdoors where distancing is not possible.
According to Kellermann, the amended order allows event organizers to follow State guidance on events while leaving the local masking requirements in place.

Nevada County Receives U.S. Department of Labor Platinum AwardThe U.S. Department of Labor has awarded Nevada County a HIRE Vets Platinum Award for its Veterans Hiring and Internship Program. The award honors employers who have proven their commitment to hire, retain, and support Veterans in their organization. Nevada County is one of only 17 employers across the nation to be recognized at this level and is the only large employer in Northern California to receive this prestigious award.
Nevada County’s Veteran Hiring and Internship program is the result of three years of leadership by Director of Human Resources, Steve Rose, who is himself a retired Air Force officer with 25 years of service. The program stemmed from a desire to meet the distinctive needs of Veterans looking to continue their public service after the military. “Our desire was threefold: to recruit, employ, and retain highly skilled veterans with the experience and motivation to work for our innovative County” Rose said.

Youth Art Contest for District Attorney Interview RoomVictims of crime often struggle to navigate the criminal justice system, beginning with investigative interviews. Headquartered under the Nevada County District Attorney’s office, the Victims Witness Assistance Center (VWAC) supports victims of child abuse and neglect by consistently providing a supportive investigative process and diminishing the damage children experience through victimization.
Investigators from throughout the local law enforcement community utilize a youth-focused interview room when investigating potential criminal cases of child abuse and neglect, designed primarily for children aged 13 and younger. To better serve youth victims of crime, the VWAC team is committed to enhancing the child interview process by ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. To this end, youth from across Nevada County are invited to participate in a community-wide art contest designed to increase child abuse awareness and create a more youth-friendly interview experience.

Nevada County Releases 2020 Agricultural Crop ReportThis week the Nevada County Agricultural Commissioner presented the 2020 Nevada County Annual Crop and Livestock Report to the Board of Supervisors. This annual report helps gauge the economic health and diversity of the agricultural community here in Nevada County.
In 2020, the total gross value of all agricultural crops produced in Nevada County was $19,725,200. This represents a decrease of approximately $3.7 million, or nearly 15%. This decrease is largely contributed to the gross value of livestock falling 33% to $3,640,300.

The Social Worker IV requires an in-depth understanding of family dynamics, mental health issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, and a working understanding of trauma and trauma informed care.
This position further requires initiative, determination, rigorous case management skills, and a passion to see families and children receive the services they need to remain healthy and, hopefully, intact. Strong candidates excel in a work environment that is fast paced and team oriented, and are able to adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
Social Worker IV is the highest non-supervisory level in this classification, and candidates will hold a Master's in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Addiction Counseling, Gerontology or related degree, as well as 1 year of full-time experience performing social work case management. The ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position, but is not required.
