Waste Management: Delayed Recyling and Green Waste Collections

Waste Management: Delayed Recycling and Green Waste Collections in Nevada County

A competitive job market coupled with a substantial number of drivers out of work and on protected leave is forcing Waste Management (WM) to prioritize curbside trash collection over other materials resulting in delays in service for recycling and green waste.

WM is making every effort to meet service demands and continue on-time collections by reshuffling resources from other areas to fill empty positions. However, the driver shortage is, on average, allowing us only to operate about half of the daily routes necessary to maintain regular collection schedules.

Customers are asked to continue to source separate materials before placing them in curbside carts. WM will make every effort to collect trash, recycling, and green waste separately. However, there could be occasions when materials are mixed if routes cannot be filled on a particular day. This situation is fluid and temporary. The collection of trash will always be the priority and is not impacted. Curbside trash continues to be collected as scheduled. If WM misses a recycling curbside collection, customers can take recycling to the McCourtney Road Transfer Station for free disposal. The transfer station is located at 14741 Wolf Mountain Rd, Grass Valley, and is open Wednesday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Central Truckee Ramp Closure Extended for Construction Work

CalTrans Traffic Alert: Central Truckee Ramp Closure Extended for Construction Work

Originally scheduled to reopen on Friday, September 23rd, the closure of the I-80 eastbound off-ramp at Central Truckee (Exit 186) has now been extended through 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 3rd, due to weather delays. The off-ramp is being reconstructed with paving, joint sealing, and striping work still required before the ramp is reopened to motorists.

Motorists are also reminded to expect travel delays on I-80 through November for construction activities. Typical delays of 15 to 20 minutes should be anticipated when traveling through the work zones on weekdays. However, delays of 25 to 30 minutes are common on Thursday afternoons due to increased travel levels. Caltrans makes every effort to reduce weekend travel congestion by keeping interstate lanes open.
